About Me

Yoga teacher & masseuse based in Berlin

Hi, I'm Yvette Chica. I've been practicing yoga for around 7 years. My approach is playful and tailored to the individual in front of me, whether you're stepping on the mat for the first time or looking to deepen an existing practice. Alongside yoga, I offer therapeutic massage sessions to help release physical tension and restore a sense of well-being. I believe the body and mind work best when we give them both the attention they deserve.

I've always been interested in experiential phenomena and the connection between body and mind. I view the Ashtanga tradition with a lot of respect and admiration as it's the system that helped me reach a deeper connection with my own body. In my youth I had terrible proprioception, which led to poor posture and routine abuse of my joints without even realizing it. I also gave no significance to breath and rhythm, so in addition to poor posture, I wasn't getting the oxygen I needed. I believe all of this contributed to anxiety and disturbed mental well-being.

Yoga helped with the shallow breathing, because breath control, pranayama, is a main pillar of the practice, and to properly perform the asanas one has to move in sync with their own breath. Breath and alignment are, for me, the crux of the physical yoga practice.

We'll first talk about where you are in your journey of physical development and what your goals are. Yoga can present different challenges depending on your body's current state, and there are other movement frameworks that can be incorporated to help deepen and progress your practice. In my own case, when I began a daily practice, I very quickly started getting pain in my right shoulder from an old injury. My upper body was much weaker than I needed it to be, and adding consistent upper body training removed the pain and let me break through to seated positions I hadn't been able to reach. Sometimes what's lacking is flexibility rather than strength, and in that case, of course, we take a different approach.

I'm happy to get to know you and see if we can't help you move through this world with more ease and balance. Our body is an amazing vessel and will take us to many amazing places in this life if we take care of it. On the other hand, it can also become a prison if we take it for granted and neglect it. If this resonates with you, reach out and let's set up a consultation, whether that's massage, yoga, or a bit of both. We can meet at your flat, my studio in Moabit, or outside in a park if the weather allows.
